Manufacturer: GSK
Pharmaceutical name: Clobetasol Propionate
Pack: 1 bottle (25 ml (0.05%))
Dermovate Hair Lotion contains Clobetasol Propionate as its active ingredient, which belongs to a category of medications known as topical corticosteroids.
Corticosteroids are used to alleviate inflammation. Skin inflammation arises from skin irritation, caused by the release of various substances that play key roles in the immune response. These substances cause blood vessels to expand, leading to redness, swelling, itching, and pain in the affected area, as seen in conditions like dermatitis or eczema.
When Clobetasol is applied to the skin, it works by penetrating the skin cells and reducing the release of these inflammatory substances, which in turn lessens swelling, redness, and itching.
Dermovate Hair Lotion should be applied sparingly to the affected areas of the scalp using the nozzle of the bottle. You may massage the lotion into your scalp if desired, but allow it to dry afterwards. Dermovate Hair Lotion is meant to remain on the scalp and should not be rinsed off. If you need to wash your hair, do so before applying Dermovate Hair Lotion.
Care should be taken to prevent Dermovate Hair Lotion from running onto the face or getting into the eyes. If accidental contact occurs, rinse with cold water. Avoid using it on broken skin. Be sure to wash your hands after applying the lotion to prevent unintentional transfer to other regions.
Dermovate Hair Lotion is typically used once or twice daily. Once your condition begins to improve, reduce the frequency of use as advised by your doctor. If there is no improvement in your scalp after two to four weeks of treatment, consult your physician. Repeated treatment courses may be necessary to manage flare-ups of psoriasis or eczema, but should only begin upon a doctor's recommendation.
Medications and their potential side effects can affect individuals differently. Below are some known side effects associated with Dermovate Hair Lotion. Just because a side effect is listed here does not mean that everyone using this medication will experience it: skin irritation at the application site, including burning, stinging, itching, and redness; allergic skin reactions (contact dermatitis); and skin thinning.
Extended use of Dermovate Hair Lotion on large areas of skin, on broken or raw skin, or beneath airtight dressings may, in rare instances, lead to enough corticosteroid absorption to cause side effects in other body areas, such as a reduction in the natural hormone production by the adrenal glands.
